About Me

DBS Cleared - Certificate Number 001165283583

I'm Terry, a maths tutor living in the Chippenham area. I have significant expertise in mathematics having a PhD and Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

I've been home tutoring for a year now and am thouroughly enjoying it, having also tutored mathematics to undergraduates in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath a few years ago.

I've applied pretty much all maths topics in real life situations over the years including online mathematics products for schools, global AI design systems, financial business solutions, and satellite design.

Having taken a step away from these hi-speed dynamic industries, I'm now applying my experience to tutoring the next generation. I aim to help students understand the fundamental building blocks of mathematics and to guide them in extending and applying these core principals to problem solving. This will help students gain the essential maths qualifications required for further education.

I'm DBS cleared and am happy to have a meet up and chat about individual requirements before tutoring sessions commence online. This helps break the ice with parents and students and makes for a more relaxing online maths tuition experience.

Maths Tuition Building Blocks

Maths Tuition

Tuition sessions are tailor-made for each student, depending upon their needs. Appropriate session lengths are available for students from age 6 to 16 and are delivered online using Zoom or similar. Tuition sessions are typically one hour, but can be shorter for younger students and can be longer if required.

I believe that a solid understanding of the fundamental building blocks of mathementics is essential. There are relatively few of these fundamentals to master and it's well worth checking this knowledge is secure before moving on.

Further topics in maths tend to include and combine these fundamental concepts. Sometimes long tricky words can make, what is essentially a fairly simple topic, seem complicated. Using clear simple language can simplify the learning of new topics, increasing student confidence. The correct terminology can be learned in tandem, making the maths much clearer to understand.

This steady approach helps form a secure undertanding of the range of maths topics within the GCSE syllabuses of the English National Curriculum allowing students to apply their understanding to new mathementics problems with confidence.
